this is a check list for Mary Sue's and Gary Stu's that I put up for your viewing pleasure
Here is a checklist, feel free to post a reply with any characters this makes you think of:
1. Falls in love often, and instantly; quite often after simply bumping into someone. Frequent mention of how deep and really valid their feelings are.
2. Often incredibly overemotional.
3. Writer will often use flowery and colorful language when describing a Sue, but plain for everyone else.
4. Often when a thread or storyline isn't going the way the writer of the Sue wants, they'll have their charrie do a complete and utter turnaround to try to make the other person love or like them. Often will try any character trait necessary until they get the 'right' response.
5. Character is described as possessing saint-like patience and angelic sweetness, or child-like innocence. Usually is also said to be a "true romantic." Isn't necessarily played that way.
6. Beautiful, often refers to the Sue's body more than is usual.
7. Sweet as a flower, "heart of gold" complex which may or may not run contrary to actions.
8. Can bring in support characters who's only purpose is to emphasize how nice/beautiful/great the charrie is.
9. Will take drastic, dramatic, and very public uncharacteristic actions to ensure sufficient sympathetic attention.
10. Immune to (unwilling to accept) standard consequences for action, also often unwilling to play out punishment or unpleasant situations. Plays character as completely blameless, and is irritated when others do not agree.
11. Either easily shakes off emotional trauma as is convenient, or shows an ability to be very easily traumatized by the smallest slight, despite an "inner strength."
12. Hogs the spotlight- must always have something going on which makes the Sue that absolute center of attention. Alternately, has their Sue hog threads for sympathy and/or attention, often accomplished by unexplained breakdowns in the presence of relative strangers
If you wish to discuss characters from other games etc, please refrain from suing the characters/players real names...
