Reknown
Chie (chee-yay)
Analogous to wisdom, Chie is best defined as intelligence, talent, cleverness and ingenuity. Kitsune write it using the characters for “know” and “blessing or kindness.” This would surprise most of their enemies, as the usual application of Chie involves destruction or evasion of the enemy – with emphasis on cunning, tricks, good use of magic and gifts, booby traps, disguises, etc. The Ideal of Chie is the killing of two enemies by tricking them into destroying each other, preferably while the fox is three Prefectures away.
Toku
Similar in some ways to Honor, Toku can mean virtue, ethical character, moral excellence or honor. One character represents it: the glyph for “upright” combined with “heart.” Toku is granted for living one’s life in accord with Gaia and Luna’s rules, and removed for deeds distasteful even to the Foxes; naturally, the Kitsune care less about morality of attacking something large and dangerous from behind and more about being a good sempai to a kit who needs one’s help. In essence, Toku reflects a Kitsune’s unwillingness to compromise what it is to be Kitsune, and constant furthering of the Fox’s goals.
Kagayaki
Kagayaki can be translated as glory, but radiance suits it better. It is written with the Character for “shinning” with a partial ideogram meaning “army” or “Military” tacked on. Kitsune use the term and award the award the reknown mostly to recognize the shining that their members do in other Shen’s eyes. Foxes don’t give a damn about battle prowess on their own account, but feel there is a certain benefit to racking up points for bravery and ferocity with Hengeyoki who care.
Kagayaki can also be given to Kitsune who do “good deeds” in the sight of anyone that matters. Nine-tails fully expect at least on more flare-up in the War of Shame before the sixth age dawns, and would like a few allies and sympathizers when it starts. Foxes who are good ambassadors to other shen may be rewarded in this way.
